Surfing is about freedom, thrills, a deep connection with nature and unforgettable shared moments. Every wave reminds us of the ocean’s power and beauty. To continue living this passion, we have a duty to respect the ocean. To protect its beaches, reduce our pollution and preserve this fragile environment that gives us so much.
On this World Oceans Day, we want to celebrate five initiatives that are helping to keep our playground alive and thriving.
Here are some key initiatives working to protect and preserve the life of our beautiful oceans:
CORAL GARDENERS
Coral reefs are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, yet they are also some of the most vulnerable to climate change, pollution, and overfishing.
Coral Gardeners is on a mission to revolutionize ocean conservation and create a global movement to save the world's coral reefs through active reef restoration.
You can become part of this movement in a tangible way. Through programs like Billabong’s loyalty rewards, points can be used to adopt a coral, directly funding reef restoration projects. Each adoption contributes to coral planting efforts and long-term monitoring, turning everyday purchases into real environmental impact beneath the waves.
No reef. No Ocean. No Air.

WINGS FOR THE OCEAN
Wings of the Ocean focuses on one of the most visible threats to marine ecosystems: plastic waste. Their work combines cleanup missions at sea and on shorelines with scientific monitoring and public awareness campaigns, aiming to reduce the flow of plastic into the ocean before it becomes part of a long-term environmental burden.
Their crews often operate along heavily impacted coastlines, collecting and sorting debris to better understand its sources—whether from tourism, fishing activities, or mismanaged waste systems. This data is then used to support prevention strategies, education programs, and policy discussions that push for more sustainable waste management on land.

THE SEA CLEANERS
The Sea Cleaners addresses one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time: the massive and growing flow of plastic waste into the oceans. As plastic breaks down into microplastics, it spreads through marine ecosystems, affecting everything from plankton to large marine mammals—and ultimately entering the human food chain.
To confront this crisis, the organization develops innovative solutions that combine engineering, prevention, and large-scale cleanup efforts. Their flagship initiatives focus on collecting floating plastic waste before it fragments further, reducing long-term ecological damage while also raising awareness about the scale of ocean pollution.

LA FONDATION DE LA MER
Fondation de la Mer works to protect and restore marine and coastal ecosystems through a wide range of environmental initiatives. One of their key priorities is the preservation of fragile coastal zones, including the restoration of dunes, which play a crucial role in preventing erosion and protecting inland areas from storms and rising sea levels.
Beyond habitat restoration, the foundation places strong emphasis on education and public awareness. Through school programs, citizen science projects, and outreach campaigns, they help people better understand the importance of ocean health and the everyday actions that can either harm or protect marine environments.
